Fresh Spring Look with Theory & Coclico
May is off to a rolling start and the weather is finally catching up (minus this weekend!). This past Monday was my birthday and we took a short trip out to Philly for a day and a half — just to change the pace and enjoy some time away. We stayed at the gorgeous Kimpton Monaco Hotel right across the street from the Liberty Bell, soaking in our country’s history. It was an easy-going few days of roaming around, eating great food (we had a pre-birthday dinner at Morimoto and it was fantastic) and drinking lots of La Colombe draft lattes. Before I knew it, we were back in NYC and back to the regular routine.
With the warmer weather, I’ve been really enjoying my stroller walks with Charlie, basking in all the gorgeous blooms around Park Slope. It struck me the other day that feel like I’m noticing the tress blooming for the first time since probably childhood. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in always going, going, going — so I feel truly blessed to be able to take the opportunity to slow down and look at things with fresh eyes. Everything seems more vivid, more intense — and I’m getting a lot of style inspiration from all the colors around me.
With the freshness of the Season, I’m also getting excited for the warm-weather outfits ahead — and for getting my wardrobe to align with my mood.
As you guys know, I’m a huge fan of creating bold and vivid color combos, and transitioning them throughout the Seasons with varying tones and shades. One such color harmony is red + green — and I shared a Winter version of it in this look here, but for today’s outfit, I played with different intensity levels of the colors to create a Spring/Summer version.
For the ingredients of this look, I picked these Good Linen Cropped Tailored Trousers from Theory in Mint Cream (light green) and mixed them with a graphic tee from Zara. I love the juxtaposition of a suiting pant with a fun urban tee — it makes the outfit feel playful yet grounded. For shoes, I wore these gorgeous Coclico Epice Heels in Lilac Suede. The light purple worked well with light green — as a secondary color harmony in my look.
For the main colors of the harmony, I chose the gorgeous Theory Varnished Leather Overlay Coat in Light Poppy (red) to pair with the light green trousers. It’s an absolutely fabulous wardrobe must-have for the Season, and can transition really well into Fall as this red will work with deeper reds (like rusts) and golds/browns, plus the leather is practical and worth the investment.
One stylist tip for using multiple color harmonies in one look is to make the primary one really vivid (brightest shades of your pieces) and the secondary one very subtle so it only stands out when you really pay attention.
I wore my patent leather Chanel Jumbo Bag to complete the look (which was my 30th Birthday present to myself) – it goes with everything and I love how classic yet modern it always feels. Another worthy wardrobe investment piece – something that I can see myself wearing over the years and dresses up any outfit.
What is your favorite way to take your colorful clothes through the Seasons? Please feel free to share the looks you create using hashtag #ModnitsaSpring in your posts, and I’ll be sure repost them on my stories!
